KelpDAO and Aave Complete Key Steps in rsETH Recovery Plan

  • KelpDAO and Aave implemented a series of important rsETH recovery measures, such as the burning of the exploiter’s rsETH on Arbitrum, as well as the preparation for the gradual refill of 117,132 rsETH into the LayerZero OFT adapter.

  • KelpDAO further implemented additional security protocols, such as the use of 4 independent attestors, block confirmation requirements, and an upcoming Chainlink CCIP migration.

The recent exploitation events did not hinder the restoration of the rsETH operation by KelpDAO and Aave, which allowed the projects to take measures necessary to recover and reinforce the protocols. Withdrawing rsETH should become possible in the near future, while some security updates are to be implemented in order to restore full functionality of the protocol.

The newest information from KelpDAO revealed that the initial stage of the rsETH recovery process was completed successfully. Perhaps the most important step of the recovery process included the burning of the exploiter’s rsETH on Arbitrum, thus helping to stabilize the ecosystem. The next stage of the recovery process will include the gradual refill of 117,132 rsETH into the LayerZero OFT adapter on Ethereum mainnet over the coming two weeks.

Withdrawals and rsETH Operations Set to Resume

According to KelpDAO, withdrawal of funds is likely to resume within 24 hours following the first successful tranche refill. Following the full reactivation of the contracts, all services concerning rsETH deposits, redemptions, bridging, and reward withdrawal will again be made available to users.

The update has brought relief not only to the affected platform but also to the entire DeFi community. In light of growing concerns about the security of cross-chain bridges, both KelpDAO and Aave highlighted the importance of regaining user trust during the recovery process. Aside from the recovery efforts, KelpDAO also launched a large-scale security upgrade for its LayerZero bridge infrastructure. Verification now requires four different attestors instead of two. Block confirmation numbers have also been raised to 64 from 42 for added security measures. Furthermore, all Layer 2 to Layer 2 routing paths have been deprecated by the protocol.

Enhanced Security Measures Introduced

With the recently added security measures having already been audited by BailSec, there is a layer of assurance gained by both users and investors. It has been reported that KelpDAO’s team is trying to migrate their service to Chainlink’s CCIP protocol to increase future reliability and security of their cross-chain interactions. In terms of the collaboration with Aave and other DeFi partners, it has certainly helped greatly in the restoration process. The community has viewed the process positively and saw it as a sign of encouragement for the future sustainability of the network. As the withdrawals are about to be resumed shortly, in combination with the high security levels, it looks like the project is focused on reviving their entire service range.
